Reaching Toward the Sun, Watercolor on paper 18" x 24" The unusual perspective of the backs of the sunflowers is what makes this watercolor painting very original. Sunflowers are one of my favorite types of flowers and are among the subjects I most enjoy including in my flower paintings. Remember that all of the white areas of this watercolor are not paint, but are areas of the paper purposely left white. The sharp, bright yellows and greens immediately draw the viewer into this floral painting. Such bold colors are very uncommon for me in my watercolors. This watercolor and its sister work, Standing Tall, are still life paintings that will complement each other beautifully when purchased as a pair. I liked this painting so much that I later did a smaller version, Backs of Sunflowers, also in watercolor. Sunflowers are especially interesting in that they don’t have an especially feminine appearance and thus are a perfect addition anywhere in the home. Original and prints available.
